  24.                  ---------------------------------
  25.
  26.            Howdy! It's been a long wait (not really.... 6 months
  27.         isn't bad.) Here is Version 1.00. It has quite a few new
  28.         features compared to Version 0, and I'm sure you will all
  29.         have a great time playing with it. For the meantime
  30.         however, we need to keep it simple. I am going to make a
  31.         few assumptions:
  32.
  33.
  34.    1 - You have a fair understanding of how Opus 0.00 works.
  35.    2 - You are running Opus on one hard drive, C:
  36.    3 - Your main Opus directory is named C:\OPUS.
  37.
  38.
  39.          If your setup varies from this, you are responsible for
  40.       placing the files in the right places. I will refer to the
  41.       main Opus directory as "\OPUS", the MISC directory as
  42.       "\OPUS\MISC", and the Help directory as "\OPUS\HLP".
  43.
  44.          If you have done any "Tricks" with Opus such as Multiple
  45.       "???PRIV" files, you are also responsible for tracking down
  46.       and replacing the needed files.
  47.
  48.

  50.         Nuff Said? Let's get to it....

  159.
  160.               Note:  To actually get external netmail working, you will
  161.                      need to use an External Message Packer such as
  162.                      OMMM. (Opus Matrix Message Masher). You will
  163.                      also need to use OPUSNODE after running a utility
  164.                      such as XLATLIST on your nodelist. OMMM and
  165.                      OPUSNODE come with their own documentation.
  166.
  167.                      For details on setting up Opus Internal EchoMail,
  168.                      please refer to the full Opus Documentation.
  169.
  170.
  171.
  172.                    9. Change your Time Zone SET varible. The format has
  173.                       changed from version 0.00. If your TZ varible
  174.                       looked like this:
  175.
  176.
  177.                             SET TZ=CST +06
  178.
  179.                       Change it to this:
  180.
  181.                             SET TZ=CST6
  182.
  183.                      This is pretty important. Since version 1.00
  184.                      has changed to the MicroSoft 4.0 compiler,
  185.                      all TZ handling is internal to the compiler.
  186.                      It does not allow spaces in the TZ string,
  187.                      and no "+" symbols. If you don't change your
  188.                      string, Opus will default to PDT.
  189.
  190.
  191.                  10. Get your FOSSIL program running.  For PC-DOS users,
  192.                      this means running OpusComm or installing the X00
  193.                      device driver.  Those programs have their own
  194.                      documentation.
  195.
  196.
  197.                  11. Type "OPUS_CTL BBS" and press <Enter>.  This step
  198.                      turns BBS.CTL into the BBS.PRM file used by Opus.
  199.                      If you are missing any important files, this is
  200.                      where you will probably find out about it.
  201.
  202.
  203.                  12. Type "RUNOPUS" and press <Enter>.  You should see
  204.                      your modem lights flash.  Opus will check out your
  205.                      system.  Shortly, you should see the message "Ready"
  206.                      on your screen.
  207.
  208.                      Welcome to Opus-Cbcs.

  213.                      THINGS THAT CAN GO WRONG
  214.                      ------------------------
  215.
  216.                      * Make sure you have followed all 12 steps (above)
  217.                        precisely.  If you have fudged a little on
  218.                        things like the sub-directory names or the
  219.                        control file, un-fudge your system and try it
  220.                        again.
  221.
  222.                      * Make sure you are running compatible equipment
  223.                        and that it is in working order.
  224.
  225.                      * Triple check to see that you have all the
  226.                        required files in their proper place and that
  227.                        you correctly made thee changes to your
  228.                        control file.

  233.      Your basic installation is now complete. The best course at this point
  234.      is to print out the manual, and spend a couple hours reading it.
